Guitar Workshop: Accompanying Yourself on Guitar with Martin Gilmore

Whether you’re a songwriter, storyteller, or performer, learning how to truly accompany yourself on guitar can transform your music. In this workshop, we’ll dive into the art of supporting your voice with style, dynamics, groove and intention. We’ll explore how to build arrangements that enhance the emotion of a song, experiment with rhythmic and harmonic techniques, and break out of the “strum-and-sing” routine.
You’ll learn how to use your guitar to create mood, drive, and contrast—whether you’re fingerpicking a ballad or grooving through an up-tempo tune. We’ll cover concepts like dynamic progression, chord voicings, rhythmic variation, and how to make a simple progression come alive.
This is a hands-on class for performers at any level who want to deepen the musical conversation between their voice and their instrument.
